Thai massage is a deep massage that involves a lot of stretching. With a Thai massage, you will be clothed in loose comfortable clothing, and receive deep body work as you are put into various yoga typeposes. Though each massage therapist that we work with at Phuket Cleanse has her own touch, a specific routine is followed. The massage is performed along the meridians/nadis (lines of energy) identified by Indian, Chinese, and Korean traditional medicine. The massage involves rhythmic pressing along key pressure points. This differs from Japanese Shiatsu due to the element of stretching.
Thai oil massage is done in a private area using our homemade coconut massage oil. Unlike the traditional Thai massage, in which you wear comfortable clothes, and are sometimes in an open are near others, one is without clothing during an oil massage. Thais are much more modest than westerners. So, you can expect to be covered with towels and blankets most of the time, except in the areas where the therapist generously slathers you with oil. Thai oil massage feels more like a Swedish massage that is performed with a variety of long brush strokes, whereas a Thai massage works more on pressure points and is not a flowing massage. One tends to fall asleep during an oil massage, as it is a relaxing affair.
